Interview with Playboy's Miss October and Gamer Next Door Pamela Horton

Author: MMOsite Writer Alexander Hinkley

I recently sat down with Playboy's Miss October from 2012, Pamela Horton. She is a huge gamer and as it turns out, quite the hardcore League of Legends fan. We spoke about her experiences on the game, her following of competitive League of Legends, and why you shouldn't lie about dating someone famous online. You never know who might be in your raid group!

First tell me a little bit about yourself.

I was born in L.A. but raised in a small town outside of Wichita, Kansas. In October 2012 I was selected by Playboy to become Playmate of the Month and since then I've become their gaming aficionado and Gamer Next Door host.

How long have you been a gamer?

I've been a gamer since before I could tie my own shoes. My dad always played the Super Nintendo in the living room with my brother where I would sit and watch. One day my dad decided to let me play since I was so interested in watching. (I apparently also was a "back-seat gamer," haha) So he let me play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and since that first moment when I saved the princess, I was hooked.

What are some of your favorite video games?

My all-time favorite games generally consist mostly of Nintendo titles such as Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon. Outside of Nintendo, I love the God of War and Final Fantasy franchises. I'm a total RPG girl! But my real bread and butter is PC gaming. League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI/XIV, etc. It's where I spend most of my time gaming.

Ah a League of Legends fan. Who is your favorite champ?

I LOVE LoL! I have a hard time choosing my favorite champ, but up at the tippy top is Teemo. (Haters gonna hate!) I'm a support at heart so I also love playing Sona and Soraka. The most fun is tanky Teemo support. I have a global taunt that wins GAMES. In other lanes I love Veigar, Cassiopeia, and Riven.

Tanky Teemo support? So what items do you build for that role as Teemo?

Well, you can play two types of Teemo bot lane. The movement speed and poke-power Teemo, or a tanky Teemo that can take hits and take advantage of how much people REALLY HATE Teemo. (Dat global taunt I say!) I usually build a catalyst first with tanky runes and masteries and a Spellthief’s Edge. I usually have cooldown reduction (for Teemo wards), Zhonya's, Spirit Visage, Locket, or Thornmail. The tankiness with a Zhonya's is rage inducing... I've seen it.

Name one champion you hate playing against the most.

Oh man I really, really hate Shaco. It doesn't help that in most games I've played against him, he is controlled by a really toxic player. Annoying game mechanics mixed with a nasty attitude has made me step away from LoL for a couple weeks at a time.

Do you ever play alternative game modes like Dominion or Twisted Treeline?

Twisted Treeline was fun until they nerfed how many mushrooms Teemo could place along with creating items that give vision on them. Teemo can't exchange in team fights unless he gets fed, but he can't get fed because everyone focuses him. (Global taunt!)

What about ranked games?

I've been a consistent Silver player for years. I was Silver ranked this season, last season, and the season before that. I play my placement games and try to achieve the tier after the one I'm placed in as a minimal goal. (Placed into Silver last season but YOLOqueue had me at Silver I until the very end...) I feel that ranked play this season opened up with significant changes to gameplay so there was a bit of a learning curve for the new(er) players I was teamed up with and against. The best you can do is try your hardest in your lane and hope you're on the "lucky" team.
